About Cal Crutchlow

Cal Crutchlow (born 29 October 1985) is an English professional motorcycle racer who retired from regular competition after the 2020 season. He is contracted as a test rider for Yamaha Motor Racing, which he is expected to continue in 2022 and 2023. During 2021 he returned to race for two Yamaha teams as a replacement rider in four MotoGP events and will replace Andrea Dovizioso for the last six events of 2022 after Dovizioso's retirement was announced mid-season. Crutchlow competed in the MotoGP class from 2011 through 2020 and is a three-time race winner in both MotoGP and Superbike World Championship competitions. After winning the 2006 British Supersport Championship title, he became Supersport World Champion in 2009 with Yamaha; this win was also his first-ever victory in any racing series other than motorcycle racing (he had previously won British Superbike titles in 2008 and 2010). He also won races in the British Superbike competition finishing third in 2008 and fifth in 2010.

In 2011, Cal Crutchlow joined the MotoGP World Championship with Monster Yamaha Tech 3. He won his first race in Spain at the end of that season and finished 7th in the overall standings. In 2012, Crutchlow managed two more podium finishes and finished 5th in the overall standings, as the top satellite (non-factory) rider. This earned him a move to Ducati for 2013 where he achieved four podiums and 188 points to finish 5th in the overall standings as the top satellite rider again. This led to him moving from Ducati to LCR Honda in 2014 where he won the Czech Republic motorcycle Grand Prix after 29 years since Barry Sheene last won one. After one season with LCR Honda in 2015, Crutchlow moved to LCR Honda again in 2016 after one podium finish in 2015. He won again at Argentina in 2018 becoming the first British rider since Barry Sheene in 1981 to win a premier-class race. After finishing third in the MotoGP standings in 2019 and again in 2020, Cal Crutchlow was replaced by Álex Márquez for 2021. He is the only LCR Honda rider to ever win a MotoGP race and has finished on the podium in MotoGP for eight consecutive seasons from 2012 to 2019.

In early 2017, the RAC awarded Crutchlow the Torrens Trophy, an accolade made in recognition of "outstanding contribution to motorcycling in the United Kingdom".
