About Colin Edwards

Colin Edwards is an American motorcycle racer, He was born February 27, 1974, He is also known as the "Texas Tornado". who competed in the MotoGP World Championship. He competed for the Factory Yamaha and Honda teams and was a two-time World Superbike runner-up. Edwards announced his retirement from racing in 2014.

The birthplace of Edwards is Conroe, TX. Edwards was initially exposed to a minibike at the age of three by his Australian father, Colin Edwards Sr., who is himself an amateur motorcycle racer. At the age of four, Edwards participated in his first motocross race. In the next ten years, Edwards rose to the top of the US juvenile motocross rankings, taking home several victories in local, regional, and national competitions in the 50cc to 80cc class.

At the age of 14, Edwards gave up motocross racing in 1988 due to distractions from typical adolescent responsibilities. Edwards was motivated to try road racing, nevertheless, after he and his father went to a motorcycle road race event in north Texas in 1990. Edwards started participating in amateur road racing races locally in 1991, but he advanced quickly to national competitions. In every amateur competition he participated in that year, he was unbeaten and took home many national amateur trophies. Edwards' performance was good enough to get him a sponsored ride with South West Motorsports, and he became a professional just before the 1992 season started.

A factory position with Yamaha in the Superbike World Championship was extended to Edwards in 1995. He finished sixth overall in the Superbike World Championship in 1996, a significant improvement. Edwards had a dismal 1997 after having to retire from competition because of injuries he had received in the Superbike World Championship's fifth round.  Thankfully, Edwards was able to reach an agreement with Honda to compete in the 1998 Superbike World Championship aboard the RC45 motorbike. In addition to earning his first solo international victories with a double win at Monza and his third win of the season at Brands Hatch, Edwards finished sixth overall that year.

Colin Edwards led Honda to a historic Double-1-2 finish in 1999 by leading colleague Aaron Slight home twice at Brands Hatch. Edwards finished the season in second place overall, behind winner Carl Fogarty. Following the disqualification of Yamaha rider and points leader Noriyuki Haga due to a positive drug test, Edwards won the Superbike World Championship overall in 2000 while operating the brand-new Honda VTR-1000 SP1/RC51 twin-cylinder motorbike. Troy Bayliss, a Ducati rider, defeated Edwards in the 2001 race, but Edwards upset Bayliss in 2002 by winning the championship in the season's last race in Imola, Italy. With 552 points in the 2002 season, Edwards also owns the record for the most points in a single season.
